Can We Tackle Racism?

I’ve done some research about racism and this is what I found.

“For hundreds of years, until the 1800s, millions of black people were taken from Africa an transported by white Europeans to become slaves. Slave ships from Britain left ports like London, Liverpool and Bristol for West Africa, carrying goods such as cloth and guns to be traded. These goods were traded for men, women and children who had been kidnapped then sold to slave traders or bought from African chiefs.” (Newsround, 17 June 2020)

“Racism is also seen in football. England’s football team took on Andorra in a World Cup qualifier at Wembley in  October 2021. It was the first time they’ve played at Wembley Stadium since the Euro 2020 final – which was overshadowed by racist abuse directed at three of England’s black players. Among those who suffered abuse was Bakayo Saka who was marked on his 20th birthday by netting the fourth goal in a 4-0 win which was greeted by huge roars from the crowd. England’s players were again racially abused by sections of the crowd during their match in Hungary.” (Newsround, 6 Sept 2021)

RACISM is not the way to go! Lot’s of people have suffered from racism. It is not just children that have suffered, it’s also adults as well, like footballers. Years ago people with darker skin were not taken seriously or accepted by white people. Since then, times have changed but unfortunately racism is still around and people are still getting treated differently just for the colour of their skin. Learning about different ethnic backgrounds throughout history is not something that has to be taught widely in British schools, which I believe needs to change so everyone can learn about different ethnic backgrounds.

Anyone can play football. Whatever the ethnic background, everyone should be accepted in this world wide sport. Do you agree?

To help and desist racism, the government are campaigning to change the educational system so that we can learn about different ethnic backgrounds.

The England team are a great example of racial inclusion. Everyone in this photo is part of the team. No one is excluded based on the colour of their skin or their religious beliefs. Without the support from each other the team would not exist or be as successful as they are today.

Let’s make racial exclusion a thing of the past.
